WHAT is SEO? GEO? WHY is it important for your business?

You’ve created a beautiful website. You’re ready to share your gifts, connect with clients, and grow your business.

But how do people find you when they don’t already know your name?

That’s where SEO comes in.

What is SEO? Let’s keep it simple.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It helps search engines understand your website so they can connect it with people looking for what you offer.

Think about the last time you searched for a service, asked Google a question, or looked for help with something.

Your future clients are doing the same thing.

They might be searching for “online therapy in Maryland,” “Reiki sessions in Surrey,” or “bilingual doula in San Francisco”.

SEO helps make your website a relevant place for them to land.

Why is SEO important for your business?

A beautiful website deserves to be found.

Design helps people feel connected to your business once they arrive. SEO helps them discover you in the first place.

It gives you an opportunity to reach people who are already searching for your services, even if they’ve never heard of your business or followed you on social media.

The goal? Help more of the right people find you, understand what you offer, and take the next step in working with you.

Is SEO just adding keywords?

Keywords are the words and phrases people type into search engines. They’re part of SEO, but there’s more to it.

SEO also involves clear, helpful content, well-organized pages, descriptive titles, and website settings that help search engines access and understand your site.

Think of it as making your website for both people and search engines, easier to understand

You don’t need to know every technical detail. That’s what I’m here for!

What does my one-time SEO setup include?

My SEO setup is available as an add-on to new website design projects. It gives your website a thoughtful foundation for visibility across Google, Bing, and emerging AI-powered search experiences.

Here’s what’s included:

  • Keyword research: Finding relevant search terms based on your services, ideal clients, industry, and where you serve people.

  • Page titles and descriptions: Writing clear SEO titles and short descriptions for your key website pages.

  • On-page optimization: Refining page copy, headings, images, and URLs to help communicate what each page offers.

  • Squarespace SEO settings: Configuring relevant settings and using available built-in tools to support your setup.

  • Clear content structure: Organizing your content so search engines and AI platforms can more easily understand your services.

  • Search and analytics connections: Connecting Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, and Google Analytics to help you track visibility and website activity.

  • Sitemap submission: Sharing your website’s list of pages with Google and Bing to help them discover your content.

Please allow 3–7 business days for completion after your website launches. This is the setup timeline; search results take longer to develop.

How long does SEO take to work?

SEO takes time. There isn’t one timeline that applies to every business.

Your results depend on factors such as your competition, your website’s history, the searches you’re targeting, and the quality of your content.

Search engines may notice some updates relatively quickly, while meaningful improvements can take months. Appearing in search results also doesn’t automatically mean appearing on the first page.

A one-time setup gives you a stronger starting point. Ongoing improvements help you build on it.

Do I need to keep working on SEO?

Your initial setup lays the groundwork. As your business grows, your website should grow with it.

That might mean updating your services, answering common client questions, improving existing pages, or publishing helpful blog posts.

You don’t have to blog constantly. Start with useful content that speaks to what your clients actually need.

For businesses wanting to reach more people or compete for popular searches, ongoing SEO support can help guide those next steps.

What about AI search and GEO?

People are also using tools like ChatGPT and Google’s AI-powered search to ask questions and discover businesses.

You may hear the term GEO, or Generative Engine Optimization. Simply put, it focuses on helping your content be found and referenced in AI-generated answers.

SEO and GEO share an important foundation: clear, helpful content that explains what you do, who you help, and answers your clients’ questions.

You don’t need to keep up with every new acronym. My SEO setup helps make your website easier for search engines and AI tools to understand, giving your business a stronger foundation as search evolves.

Appearing in search results or AI answers is never guaranteed, but a thoughtful setup gives your website a better starting point.

A little strategy behind the magic

One of my favorite things is hearing a new client say, “I found you on Google.”

It feels like a little magic working in the background, even while I’m busy designing websites or taking time away from social media.

There’s strategy behind that magic, too.

SEO helps create more opportunities for the people looking for you to find you.
